Dr. Barkin earned his BS in Biochemistry from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He attended medical school at New York University and completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Yale University/Greenwich Hospital. He did a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Georgetown University. Dr. Barkin joined Gastroenterology & Hepatology Associates in 1992.
Dr. Barkin has recently served as the Chief of Medicine at Inova Alexandria Hospital. He has also been named as a "Top Doctor" in Consumer Checkbook Magazine, the Wasingtonian, and Northern Virginia Magazine.
